Jermani Lay

Hello:

I am Jermani Lay, I am applying for this scholarship to help me in furthering my education. After high school graduation this year; I am planning to attend college majoring in Criminal Justice. I have been accepted to a total of (10) colleges right now and I am leaning toward Johnson C Smith University.

My current GPA is 3.5 and I have worked very hard to maintain an above 3.0 average in High School so that I can attend college. I have obtained Honor Roll status and Distinguished Honor Roll status many times throughout my High School years. I am proud and grateful to be a Senior at Aliquippa High School. I am am looking forward to graduating AHS this year (2022)  with Honors and attending college this year as well.

The reasons why I think I deserve a scholarship:

• I’m a Leader: (I am currently serving as the Senior Class Secretary 2022). I take great pride in working with my class on projects and serving as the Class Secretary. I keep great notes and records for our Class meetings so that we stay on track with what we are working on.
• I am the oldest of three children; and I try to be a good student and do well so that my younger Sister and Brother will look up to me. I want them to be proud of me and for them to know that you have to work hard and stay out of trouble to be successful. I want my parents to be proud of me as well!
• I am High School Entrepreneur. My business name is (Invites by Jerm)! I create custom design invites for events: (Graduations, Party’s. and other events) . I also make desserts for sale: Chocolate Covered strawberries, Banana Puddings, and Cupcakes. Please see the attachment below from my business. I work very hard at my small business on the side of school so that I can make money to help with my Senior expenses that my parents and I will have to pay for this year. I have a passion for business and I like helping people.
• I have stayed on course and focused during this Pandemic to Graduate High School and press on to College. These past (2) years with the Pandemic things have been nothing near normal. Prices have gone up on everything and times have been hard for me and my family like many others. My Mom graduated from college this past year and it was very exciting for me and my siblings. I want to pursue my dreams like my Mom and get my degree as well. Once I get my degree; I can begin a great career.

I want to pursue an education in Criminal Justice because there is a need for more people in America to have proper representation and justice. I want to assist others in getting justice for themselves and justice for families of victims.

I am dedicated to being successful and making my parents proud of me. I want to be a positive influence in my little Sister and little Brother’s life. I want to show them that success is possible if you work hard. I know that my dreams come true if I continue to stay focused and to keep trying.
